“Grown-Up Time Out”

Lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, … teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up … -Deuteronomy 11:18-20 We all have those proud mom moments when our children surprise us and make us look like the mom of the year. You know… that rare family dinner out where all of the kids display their best table manners with no whining or crying and they …

You Are Not Forgotten!

Not long ago, I was up early sitting on my back porch with my hot cup of coffee, my Bible and some praise music. I sat there that morning with great purpose. I needed to hear clearly from my Heavenly Father. I needed to feel His tender but firm embrace. The first song on my praise list began to play … Why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely and long for Heav’n and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He; His eye is on the sparrow, and …

A “Horrible” Mom

I’ll never forget sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee and take in the morning headlines, when instead, I was greeted by a special report offering advice to new parents. Within minutes, I was told how horrible a mom I was. Now, it wasn’t directed to me personally, but, according to the experts, I had really messed up my children. I did everything wrong, especially with my firstborn! Ah, the firstborn! The one on whom we practice and learn. My unfortunate firstborn, Jordan was born by emergency C-Section, on May 24, 1993. He was a wonderful, 9 pound, 1 …

Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!

Dear Mom, Have you ever had days in your life when the only prayer you could muster was that prayer of the desperate father in Mark 9:24, “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief?” When it seemed like my world was falling apart, and nothing made sense, this was my familiar prayer. If I had the opportunity to sit and have a heart to heart with John the Baptist, I’m sure he would wholeheartedly share how much he can relate to that. Because he too, had his moment of “Lord, I believe, but help my unbelief.” Do you remember that moment …

What Mom’s Do Right: Raising godly children

We all have those proud mom moments when our children surprise us and make us look like the mom of the year. You know… that rare family dinner out where all of the kids display their best table manners with no whining or crying and they remember the magic words …  “please” and “thank you” and the waitress and the table of elderly ladies behind you congratulate you on how well-behaved your children are. And your chest swells with pride as your imagination plays a movie of the Mom’s Choice Awards and they call your name. Your children jump to …

Jesus Really Sees You!

There is a powerful story, nestled between two parables in Luke chapter 13. The story unfolds in four short verses. Jesus was teaching in the synagogue on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had what Luke describes as a “spirit of infirmity.” She was bent over and for eighteen years could not straighten herself up. Luke goes on to describe a most amazing scene. He said, “When Jesus saw her He called her to Him.”  Notice … she didn’t call or reach out to Him. He called out to her. Jesus said, “Woman, you are loosed from your …

But, I Don’t Wanna Let Him Go!

I had to let him go. I didn’t want to, but I had to. I had more I wanted to teach him. Time to spend with him. But it was time. Jordan, my first born child was moving out to set up his own home at his own condo. A high rise. 9th floor, overlooking parts of the Orlando city sky scape. He’s so excited, he’s about to burst. I’m so sad, I’m about to burst. It’s kind of what happens when you raise your child to manhood. He doesn’t need his momma anymore. Well, except for home cooked meals …
