5 Steps to Living a Joy-Filled Life

Spread the love

Why can’t you spot a Christian on the sidewalk out of the crowd? Should we be able to tell a Christian from a non-Christian?

We all want to experience the joy of an abundant life that scripture talks about living. But why do most Christians look like everyone else?

Because we are missing the secret to living an abundant life… capturing the joy and peace of living in Christ Jesus.

I remember one day a few years back, I was at the airport waiting to catch my plane. I was people watching of course,  and I saw this woman who looked to be in her sixties sitting near me. She was joyful! She had the most peaceful look on her face, and she was so confident and serene. When I imagined the picture of an angel, she was it.

It just so happened that she sat right next to me on the plane. There are no coincidences in God’s daily design. She was reading a beautiful book about Christmas. I decided to strike up a conversation with her because I was so intrigued by her sweet countenance.

I found out that she indeed was a Christian, and that she and her husband ran a ranch for orphaned and abused children. I began to tell her a little bit about my life as a single parent, and she quickly gave me some sage advice that later led me smack dab into God’s path for my life.

She asked me if the guy that I was dating at that time was a Christian. I said NO. She warned me of a dark future if I took that path. She was my angel that day. Her words resonated with me years later when I said YES to my future God-loving and faithful husband, JD.

I wanted to be like her that day because she radiated God’s joy and peace. I’m still working on that too, my friend!

Here’s 5 simple steps that may help you live in that JOY God talks about:

**Stop trying to control your life and the lives of those around you. The saying is true…let go and let God. Surrender completely to God’s plan for your life. Until you realize that God is sovereign and choose to let Him lead, you may be frowning a lot more than you’d like.

**Find at least one thing to be thankful for each day. And praise God for it!

**Trust Him completely. Let go of your worries and anxiety. Give all your cares to God.

**Wait on God and His timing, not your own. We can’t force God to do what we want when we want it.

**Serve others instead of serving yourself. Let go of your selfishness. Take less than you give. And before you know it, ALL of your needs will be met.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:2-3 NIV).

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17 ESV).

“For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name” (Psalm 33:21 ESV).

I hope you find a life filled with abundant joy, sweet momma!

Be Blessed,
