Bite Your Tongue

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, James 1:19 NIV Sometimes it is better for everyone involved if you just bite your tongue. Oh, I know, it’s not easy to do and believe me, this is something that I struggle with as a mom, wife…and well, as a person, but hear me on this- there is strength in not saying everything that comes to your mind. Hope for the Hard Days

I spotted it the moment I stepped out of the bathroom-a smudgy blue footprint in the middle of the walkway. Instantly, my stomach twisted at the sight. Because every mom knows where there is one footprint, there is more. I’d been alone behind that bathroom door for less than five minutes- just enough time to speed-wash my hair and slap on deodorant. But after a decade of motherhood, I knew that a few moments was ample time for a three-year-old to ignite a disaster. I wrapped a towel around my dripping hair and followed the path of blue blotches out …

Hold On Loosely, Don’t Give Up Hope

Moms of teenagers and adult children, oh how I would love to pull up a chair beside you, pour a cup of coffee and commiserate over this new season of parenting you’re in. It’s not an easy transition by any means but I’m hoping that as we sit and visit that you and I both will learn a little bit about how to hold on loosely in this season when you feel like giving up hope. Chances are if you are a child of the 80’s, you’ll remember a song from the band 38 special called, “Hold On Loosely.” In …

Prayer Matters by Pam Farrel (and a GIVEAWAY!)

We believe that prayer is the most strategic parenting technique any parent can utilize. We have made a habit of using the words of the Bible to form prayer requests for our kids and, out of curiosity, have kept track of the results. Here is one of the prayers we prayed consistently for our oldest son, Brock: God, give him the faith of a Daniel or a Joseph. Give him the courage to stand alone for You. Give him the integrity and wisdom to choose well in his relationships as you lead him to the godly woman he will marry …

Letting Go is Hard to Do

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. (Psalm 62:8 ESV) From the moment of giving birth, the hard process of letting go begins. Having a hard time letting go? Here’s help! #moms #motherhood Click To Tweet I remember when my son was first born not wanting to let him out of my sight. I would drag the car seat into the bathroom when I needed to take a shower, and constantly risk soaking the throw rug by peering around the curtain to make sure he was …

Ouch, I know, that’s a tough one, especially if you have little boys at home right now. HELP is ON the WAY

Are you OVERWHELMED?  STRESSED? IMPATIENT? DEPRESSED?  “Help is ON the WAY!”  Isn’t that what we crave to hear? Isn’t that what we NEED to KNOW?   Psalm 33:20 assures us God “is our HELP and our shield.”  HOW is GOD my HELP?  He assures me that I’m not alone.  He comforts me that His eye is on me. He reminds me that my joy is in Him. He directs me with the promptings of His Holy Spirit.  He leads me in the way of truth which shields my children and me from Satan’s schemes of deception. He is my reward. He is my joy. HOW …

cravings

I’m sitting in my office eating a tangerine. It’s citrus flavor is bright on my tongue this frigid winter day but what I really want is a warm cup of hot chocolate or the jar of Nutella in my desk snack drawer. I’m fighting the craving to eat right now and trying to consume this sacred opportunity to crave God instead.  It’s Thursday and quite frankly, this week has been long and full. School started back for my kiddos and we’ve had our share of tears this week. My girls switched tables at four year old preschool this week and …
