What Our Choices Have to Do with Knowing God More

Spread the love

Okay y’all! So, I’m just gonna be real here. Some of you aren’t going to like what I’m getting ready to say.

Do you really treasure God’s Word? Do you embrace the truth that you need to read and memorize it? Are you hungry to know and understand the Scriptures or are you satisfied with making the sum of your time in the Word an Instagram view of a verse created as a cute graphic meme?

Recently, I spoke to some moms about how they don’t have time to read God’s Word or really spend time in intimate prayer.

So, let’s think about that for a minute.

There are seasons that we go through when we feel like we can’t seem to catch our breath. Seasons when life seems to call us from one event and one need to the next.

But most of the time, the way we spend our time is a matter of choice.

Moms aren’t any busier today then they were 30 years ago…unless they choose to be.

We make choices. And the choices we make determine if we are going to be women who seek God more and demonstrate to our children how important an intimate, relentless relationship with Christ really is.

  • Going to bed early enough to get up early enough to spend time in prayer and in the Word is a choice.
  • Getting up an hour before it’s time to wake up the kids is a choice.
  • Turning off the TV and tucking yourself into bed with a word from the Word is a choice.
  • Limiting your social media time is a choice.
  • Deciding not to get on Facebook before you’ve sought the face of God is a choice.
  • Limiting your children’s actives is a choice.
  • Discovering the power of a discipline life is a choice.

Not easy. None of it’s easy. But when you really embrace the reality that you need God’s Word, that it gives you power, wisdom, hope, and faith… and when you truly long to know God more, the disciplines of a faithful life become the overflow of a surrendered and grateful life.

So, how about you? Have you read the Word today? If not, Psalm 119 is a great place to start discovering the significance of God’s Word.

PSALM 119:1-8

1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.
You have commanded us
To keep Your precepts diligently.
Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!
Then I would not be ashamed,
When I look into all Your commandments.
I will praise You with uprightness of heart,
When I learn Your righteous judgments.
I will keep Your statutes;
Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

What are you reading in the Word of God these days? Where are you on a scale from 1 to 10 in your passion to know God in this season of your life? How can we help you in your quest to know Him more?
