Do you know that God thinks you’re fabulous? It’s true. If you don’t believe that, your battle against the dirty villains of motherhood is doomed from the start. Because before you can wield God’s mighty power, you must first believe that He is on your side.
To ingest this truth deep in your heart, let’s look at some supporting arguments from scripture.
1. God created you, and you are His masterpiece.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13–14).
2. God knows you better than you know yourself.
“You have searched me, lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, lord, know it completely. . . . All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:1–4, 16).
3. God takes delight in you.
“ ‘The lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing’ ” (Zephaniah 3:17).
4. God watches over you. You are valuable to Him.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Luke 12:6–7).
5. God loves you enough to save you.
“But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)” (Ephesians 2:4–5 NLT).
6. God will never let you go.
“ ‘And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day’ ” (John 6:39).
Understand that God’s love for you is not dependent on what you do. It’s not measured by how your kids behave or what advanced grade level they’re reading. Your value is not even determined by the number of hugs and kisses and Pinterest-perfect cupcakes you shower on your family in a given day or a year.
Your value is set by God—long before you became a mom. Long before sleepless nights and diaper runs and softball tournaments stripped your energy and your glamour and caused you to question your worth.
God loves you for who you are. We get this: we’re moms. We have an inbred love for our children that persists even when they misbehave or drive us nuts. And if we, flawed mortals that we are, can hold such deep affection for our sons and daughters in spite of their failings, imagine how much more a holy, impeccable Creator God can love us, His own children.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
