“Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” Colossians 4:17

Does your church have a women’s ministry with a mission statement? With specific plans for ministering to women in your church and in your community? With a Titus 2 foundation and a solid biblical manifesto that is not only inclusive but also focused on reaching women for Christ and teaching women the Word and how to live it out in real life?

Is your women’s ministry on a well-planned advance to take ground for the Kingdom of God? It can be! And it should be!

Women’s ministries have the potential to have a profound impact on the church they are part of as well as the community they’ve been planted in – but the impact doesn’t just happen because we want it to. And it doesn’t just happen because we are passionate about it.

Passion without purpose only makes for unintentional efforts and unfinished plans. It’s like trying to shoot for a target that doesn’t exist.

SO… what is the purpose for a women’s ministry? What is the foundation for a women’s ministry?

1. To fulfill the Great Commission by reaching women for Christ and teaching those who know Him

2.To fulfill Titus 2 through biblically-based practical mentoring relationships that help women develop godly behavior as a woman, wife, mother, homemaker and servant of the Most High God

When I talk to women’s ministry leaders, I’ve found that the majority of them have the second part of fulfilling the Great Commission down well.

Teaching women who know Christ is generally well-grafted into most women’s ministries and it’s an important part of grounding women in the Word and helping them use their spiritual gifts and natural abilities to serve the Lord. It’s part of growing up the next generation of women’s ministry leaders and inclusively enabling women to be part of what God is doing right there in your church and community.

But is the first part of the Great Commission something that is currently woven into your women’s ministry?

And what about Titus 2? Is mentoring part of your women’s ministry?

I remember reading Titus 2 one day with new eyes and I discovered that Titus 2 is really very practical in nature. It’s where the rubber meets the road in a woman’s life…

  • Living a pure life
  • Being a godly wife who loves her husband and children well
  • Being a trustworthy and hardworking manager of her home

Real life stuff – The kinds of things we deal with as women on a daily basis – The reason that having a mentor makes all the difference in the world – The way we become the wife our husbands need, the mothers our children deserve, and the women we long to become – The way we leave a legacy of faith.

So how about your women’s ministry? Is there anything missing?

  • Reaching?
  • Teaching?
  • Mentoring?
