Birthdays, Goals, and Being Mom

Spread the love

goals 3

Tomorrow I turn 39. I begin my fortieth year and the last nine years swirl around me in fast-forward.

These days I cannot recall each individual one. But, I see them marked in lines on my face, by the number of shoe sizes my children have gone through, and by the tiny bit of white appearing at my temples.

Maybe I am a bit weird, but I am looking forward to being 39. I am a mom of three wonderful kids, and I can’t wait to see what they will accomplish. I love watching who they are and who they are becoming. I know each day my husband will be there to cheer me on and tell me I’m beautiful (he doesn’t even notice those lines on my face, or he loves me because of them).

I also know difficulties are likely to arise. Jesus Himself told us in this world there will be troubles…But I get to face those troubles with God and with my family.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. ” (John 16:33 ESV)

This year I also have things to accomplish. I need to get organized, continue to write (and maybe one day hold a book I wrote in my hands), and finish my Masters Degree (maybe by December).

So, how will I celebrate turning 39? Like I need to celebrate every day!

I’ll get up and teach my children, I’ll wash dishes and try to be thankful for food and plates, and I’ll wash the massive amounts of laundry five people make. I’ll check Facebook and have lots of friends tell me happy birthday.

My husband says he has bought me a gift, and I’ll probably make my own cake because I like homemade cakes the best. I also get to test to earn my brown belt in Kuk Sool Won martial arts tomorrow.

Moms, being a great mom does not mean that you can’t set goals for yourself. Although life as a mom means you often have to put the needs of others above yourself,f that does not mean you cannot set a goal and go for it. It may mean it takes you longer to reach your goal, or it may mean sometimes your house isn’t spotless.

But moms we do not have to lose our identity as we raise our children!

So what goals are you aiming for this year?
