‘Twas the Night of Jesus’s Birth

Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas COVER

Moms, it’s so very important that we keep Christ before our children during the Christmas season.  There is no account so grand as our Savior’s birth. Angels flying from God’s throne room far surpasses tales of flying reindeer.  The star God placed in the heavens outshines a a red nose. And you want to talk about gifts? God gave us a priceless one. Let’s keep the focus on Christ. Read this poem with expression! When you get to “knock,” knock on something hard so they hear the sound of knocking. Flatten your palms to make the sound of “walking.” Let the true meaning of Christmas be the favorite story they want to hear. Let it be the story in their hearts.   For more Christmas poems, devotionals, daily readings leading up to Christmas, and ideas on how to prepare you and your child’s heart for Christmas, click here

‘Twas the night of Jesus’s birth

And all through the town

Mary and Joseph looked

For a place to lie down.

Mary had ridden

Their donkey so far!

Way back in that time

There weren’t any cars.

KNOCK!  KNOCK! KNOCK!

Joseph knocked on the door.

A man opened it up

But he looked kind of sore.

“What do you want?

I was asleep in my bed.”

“I’m sorry,” Joseph explained.

“We need a place for our heads.”

Joseph Knocking“I don’t have any room.

My beds are all taken.

Down the street you’ll find one

Unless I’m mistaken.”

WALK. WALK. WALK.

They went down the street.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

But everyone was asleep.

Mary asked Joseph,

“What will we do?”

She looked kind of sad.

I’d be; wouldn’t you?

“Mary, I know God

Is looking after us.

Let’s check out that stall

We’ll sleep there if we must.”

Joseph made for Mary

a bed out of hay.

It was warm, soft, and clean

Mary liked it that way.

MangerThen as they were sleeping

Guess who decided to appear?

Baby Jesus! It was time.

God came near.

Mary and Joseph

Smiled in glee.

Angels sang songs

                                                                                                     Of joy and glory.

God placed a BIG star

High in the sky

Shepherds left their sheep

To see Jesus and say, “Hi!”

Wise Man Worshipping

Wise men on camels

Saw the star, too.

They followed it and brought

Presents and worshipped Him, too.

God gave us Jesus

That special birth day.

Jesus is forever

The life, truth, and way.

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.  So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”  Luke 2:1-14 NKJV
