Finding Quiet in Our “Everything is Awesome*” World

Spread the love

In our dazzling million dollar budget animated everything is awesome sensory overloaded world… it is hard to think…to pause…to find quiet.

Daily life now resembles the rapid fire visuals seen on huge 3D movie screens which dash at us so fast… we don’t pause… to calculate… to consider…

The overwhelming roller-coaster of clamorous non-stop information penetrates our minds and splits our thinking…while silently shaping who we are… from the inside out.

Our souls starve for quiet reflection amid the pounding chaos.  For uninterrupted thoughts.  For deep truth.

When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. Jesus opened His mouth and began to teach them.   Matthew 5:1

Today my goal in writing is to lead you and your children to this quiet mountaintop.  Away from our stop-motion so fast you can’t process it world…to a place to sit.  To listen.  To think.

Come with me and intentionally break away from our rapid fire world for quiet reflection.  Let’s grasp our children by the hand and climb to a place of solitude…of quiet… at the feet of Jesus.

In my own life, as well as yours, this may not be easy.  But it is possible when we start out small.

I found placing trusted resources by the kitchen table (so I see and don’t forget), and making dinner a priority a few nights a week is a great start.  bookskleenex

At the end of our meal our family stops the rush.  We make ourselves sit.   We take a few priceless minutes to read and learn deep truths found in Scripture together.

The Bible.  The one and only source for complete truth.  Start by reading through a Psalm or Proverb each day together.  Memorize scripture together as a family.

Big Truths for Little Kids: by Susan and Richie Hunt.  My early elementary school kids really enjoy this book.  They learn deep truths from Scripture while the stories help them apply biblical truth to everyday life.  A wonderful devotional book for teaching little ones to live for God and the whys behind it.

Big Truths for Young Hearts: by Bruce A. Ware.  Our teens benefit as well as my husband and I after each short chapter.  This book is level ground in our world filled with confusing, often contradictory messages about who God is.  This book is a must for parents and children alike.

How to Study Your Bible: by Kay Arthur, David Arthur and Pete De Lacy.  Away from the dinner table… alone on the mountaintop, “directly interacting with God’s Word.”  This is for you mom.  Learn to study God’s Word in a life changing way, then teach your children how to do the same. What about you? Are you exhausted and overloaded?  How can The M.O.M Initiative encourage you to find rest in the truth of God’s Word?

 Praising Him with my pen,
