Five Things I LOVE About Being a Boy Mom

My desire to have three boys and three girls didn’t last long. After my first son was born I quickly decided that I wanted to be a boy mom. No girls for this girl. At least that’s what my plan was at the time and although I didn’t realize it, it seemed to be God’s plan too.

No ruffles, dresses, patten leather shoes or barrettes. No way. Not for this momma. My shopping cart would overflow with jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes and an occasional dress shirt and tie.

And I was happy about that!

Still am.

Not that being a girl mom would have been a bad thing! I’m sure girl moms are just as happy to be girl moms as I am to be a boy mom…but being a girl mom just wasn’t for me.

Today, I want to share five reasons I LOVE being a boy mom:

1. Boys get dirty ~ I’m a tomboy at heart so getting dirty was a must in our house. Messy boys means happy boys and sticky faces means their bellies are full. And you can be sure that if their faces are sticky that you will discover a trail of evidence that will lead you right back to their food source. I may have had trouble getting the stains out of their clothes, but they won’t have trouble reflecting on the memories we made.

2. Boys stay in fifth gear until it’s time for bed ~ A house full of boys has a way of keeping a mom on her toes. I loved it when my sons were young and our days were filled with the buzz of boys running through the house and nonstop action that made the Shott home fun. Boys only have two gears. Fifth and Park. I love both.

3. Boys are mischievous ~ Maybe not on your “Mommy’s Favorite Things” list, but it was definitely on mine. There was never a dull moment with my two boys and I loved seeing what kind of capers they could come up with. Laughter fills the air and joy fills the heart when kids are having some good clean fun.

4. Boys noises and boy toys ~ Loud noises and fun toys makes being a boy mom fun. Their masculine attempts at sentence forming grunts, growls, and lots of verbiage that sounds like something from The Pirates of the Caribbean. And the toys! How cool are the cars, racetracks, base balls, superheroes, action figures, guitars and art supplies?!

5. Boys LOVE their mommas ~ Yeah. That’s my favorite part about being a boy mom! Those boys LOVE their mommas. Not in a needy, attached kind of way, but in a, even when their grown up you’re the first person they call when something really good or really bad happens kind of way.

My boys are now men and life has changed… a lot!

But the memories we made with their messy, active, mischievous, loud, playful loving selves will last a life time and when they come over for dinner or just to hang out, we come face to face with the men our sons have become, yet somehow, our hearts still remember the boys they were.
