What I Say in the Silences

Spread the love

“Wilderness and desert will sing joyously, the badlands will celebrate and flower— Like the crocus in spring, bursting into blossom, a symphony of song and color. Mountain glories of Lebanon—a gift. Awesome Carmel, stunning Sharon—gifts. God’s resplendent glory, fully on display. God awesome, God majestic.” Isaiah 35:8 (Message)

It’s a rainy morning in East Texas, washing away thick pollen, which is running in a yellow stream to the street. I grab my bag of quiet-time materials, toy basket and gently lift Noah, carrying him to his exersaucer on our covered, back porch—a perfect set-up for the day.

Noah squeals delightfully over our Border Collie, Cimarron, running circles in the rain.  Noah taps the exersaucer with his toy, a rhythmic sound in time with the rain flowing down the nearby gutter.

I turn sideways in the swing and begin to write, “Every day is like an orchestra for me—practicing, planning, and timing. When I have everything in place and ready at the right time, the blending of life is so perfect. Like this morning, with God’s help, Noah slept until after 8am. He woke up happy and patient, ready to eat, as I got everything ready for our morning porch-time.

It’s been raining for the past week. But it helps to be in the midst of God’s beautiful creation—birds singing, dog playing and a gentle flow of air. I can hardly believe how perfect this silent time is for both of us. At 7 months old, Noah is chewing on everything, making sounds of all kinds and staring up at the trees in wonder.”

Lord, You are such a great Conductor. In a world of sin and strife, Jesus brings peace to our family by being everywhere, conducting the day. I praise You for this day!
