Runner with fans

Let’s hear it FROM Mom!

It was a three mile run, shoulder to shoulder with hopefuls like me, tasting the dust of the course in my mouth, mentally counting the time and distance. By the time it was over, I was exhausted. Was I a runner? I wasn’t even in the race! I was a mom cheering on the sidelines. Being a mom who cheers Motivated by a full heart, moms clap at music recitals, admire primitive artwork, freeze on soccer fields, and keep the stop watch at the track. No one better cheers better than a mom. Being a mom who hurts But not …

The window of a mother’s influence

As the 16th President of the United States, he brought a broken nation together and freed a persecuted people, yet he said that, “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother” ~ President Abraham Lincoln.  A mother has the potential to influence her child to become all God planned, despite the obstacles of life, to nurture greatness from a once-swaddled helplessness depending on her for life itself. The window of opportunity was wide open for so long. From her bassinet, her eyes locked on mine as if she studied my every word and expression. …

Time To Breathe

When the walls are closing in, what do you do?   What a week.  I was so tired!  The days seem to be getting longer even though they were really getting shorter.  The kids were not getting along.  It seemed like no one would do their school work without being told a gazillion times. Breathe. My 18 year old daughter informed she had to babysit all day for someone so I wouldn’t have her around to help. Breathe I forgot the wet clothes were still in the washer and the dishwasher still had dirty dishes in it because I forgot to start …

Misunderstood Momma

* A flask of gunpowder and a bag of bullets were absent from this quick-draw-duel with my four-year-old son. One child stood alongside me in the elevator nice and happy. The other stood determined on the outside not about to get in. His glare along with his high-pitched voice screamed his defiance as he stood his ground. He had been testing my authority all morning and saw this as yet another opportunity. Time stopped as the showdown began. Who would win this battle of the wills?  As my mouth told him to get in, my brain cried out a prayer that this time he …

Pure Possibilities

Ephesians 5:3 states, “Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” “Mom, is it even possible for me to grow up being sexually pure?” was the question my 13 year old son asked me that stopped me in my tracks.  As we sat and talked, I was reminded of the real battle each of our sons and daughters have every day.   The sexually tempting billboards along the roads, the relentless commercials flashing sensuality on TV, the constant drumming of sex …
