When You Feel Like a Failure

We all feel like we have failed at something at one time or another in our lives. And that can be hard to process. But, if we can remember that our identity lies in Christ and not in the things of this world, we really do ourselves a favor. Our identity is not in being the best at something, in our job, or in another person. Our identity lies squarely in who God says we are. We also need to acknowledge that these failure feelings are not from God. The devil would like to keep us in a state of …

Life Doesn’t Have to Become Unravelled When Mom Is Sick – 5 Things to Help Your Home Run Well When You Aren’t Feeling Well

I’m sick. Feeling like pooh (and I’m not talking about Winnie)! Sniffing, snorting, sneezing, fever, just-want-to-crawl-under-the-covers sick. Somewhere between chills and Kleenex, my blank mind wandered to a time when my children were young and being sick wasn’t something I had time for.  I wasn’t prepared. Proverbs 31:21 gives us an inside peek at the intimidating Mrs. Proverbs 31’s home life. “She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet.” She wasn’t afraid of what lurked beyond the four walls of her house because, like a girl scout, Mrs. Proverbs 31 was ready. I …

Parenting Through the Knots and Stitches

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, “ declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than earth, so are my ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9) Do you crochet, or do you know anyone who can? I mean, really REALLY crochet, not the one line of cockeyed links that I create that wouldn’t even pass as a friendship bracelet. I recently tried to take up crocheting…again… and, again, found that I seem to be crochet-challenged. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the skill, knowledge, and time it takes to …

Why I Think Being a Mom Links Us to the Hardest Work

Before we dig in to this uber important topic, I want to ask if you will read through today’s post and comment to let us know that you are in… that you will pray with us for the next generation. We want to know how many women will roll up  their sleeves and do the one hard thing we should be doing… praying! COMMENT and tell us you’re in if you are. Oswald Chambers once said, “Prayer is the greatest work.” It’s not easy to intercede on behalf of those who can’t or won’t pray for themselves. Intercessory prayer is …

The Power of Prayer

I’d been having major writer’s block. I was praying to God to show me His topic for today’s blog and nothing was coming. Time was running out for the publish date… I had just spent the morning at my Holy yoga class and was driving home. I was thinking about how precious life is, and I was thanking God for letting me do yoga with friends in Christ. Life had been really tough lately for me and my husband, and I’d been having a hard time experiencing God’s joy and peace. As I was driving home, there was a truck in …

The Creepy Clown Craze and Your Child

In Menasha, Wisconsin on October 7,2016 a couple left their four-year-old child alone for the purpose of terrorizing their neighborhood with creepy clown pranks. These parents have been charged with neglect. (Click here for the story.) Creepy clowns are not just in Wisconsin. They have surfaced internationally. CNN reported parents are being asked to not allow their teens to dress up like clowns for Halloween.  I suspect with Halloween on the horizon it will only get worse. As October 31st drew nearer, I noticed an increase in bad dreams and night terrors. @themominitiativ @loriwildenberg #parenting Click To Tweet When my …

Is God Really Good

Is God Really Good?

I’m a good person. I try to do the right things. Good grief, God, I’m serving You! I don’t deserve to be in pain like this! This shouldn’t be happening to me! I’ve had those thoughts. Maybe you have, too. Right now, there is a young family in my church that is going through an incredibly overwhelming and difficult season. They love God passionately. They are always serving others. Several years ago, they added two boys to their family of four through foreign adoption. After two heart wrenching years—filled with family counseling sessions, individual therapy and much prayer—one of the …

Understanding the Gospel

“Mom, what does it mean to be saved?” asked Peter as his family left the crowded church building. His mom gazed back into his questioning eyes with her own uncertainty. All at once she realized how unprepared she was to answer this seemingly simple question about the gospel.  What does it mean to be saved from our own sin?  How can we understand our need for a Savior and the wonderful news of the gospel in order to teach our children and grandchildren? “One cannot become a Christian without understanding and embracing the basic message of the gospel.” –Dr. Mike Fabarez Today …

Lavish Grace Week 5: The Work of Grace

Welcome to Lavish Grace Week 5: The Work of Grace about Kathy Howard’s new book Lavish Grace. When we speak of grace in our lives we’re often speaking of beautiful things that make our lives peaceful, and ignore the “work” side of grace that can often give us bumps in the road. We forget that we can’t have one without the other. God uses trials to work out grace in our lives. Eight years ago my body began to betray me. I would be doing the normal stuff of life when suddenly my heart would start beating too hard, I would …

Who I’m Praying My Children Will Be Like

We often told our children we want them to be their own person… that we don’t want them to be like anyone else. But as I was perusing the people of the Bible, I realized that there were some amazing characteristics in some amazing characters of Sacred Text who I really want my sons to be like. So, for the past year or so, I’ve been praying this prayer. “Lord, make my sons… Humble like Moses Courageous like Deborah Brave like Joshua Encouraging like Barnabas  Zealous like Peter Bold like Paul Dedicated like David Yielded like Mary Determined like Nehemiah …
