DIY T-Shirt Bags

Written by Heather Riggleman, author of Mama Needs a Time Out. Do you see this? This is what happens when I am not paying attention to my kids or keeping them busy with something…. Yep. That is my son on a trampoline with his big sister’s rollerblades. Take note, the net isn’t up yet…. So today’s craft is T-Shirt bags. We have tons of old t-shirts laying around and I’m forever looking for a bag to tote library books, toys to grandma’s and groceries. Today, the kids get to make bags for the pool and other summer gear!        …

Are you an Angela? Can you mentor?

Written by Heather Riggleman, Author of Mama Needs A Time Out Several years ago, a girl wandered into an old downtown theater. She had been beaten down in life by poor choices and circumstances. Her young daughter and husband were threads holding her together and even then, it wasn’t enough to keep her from trying it end all again. But something had happened a few weeks before; in an emergency room as she was strapped to a hospital bed where she heard the voice of God. Since then she had been searching to encounter him again.  The front had been converted …

Going out on a limb

One of the biggest fears I have as a woman is not leaving the legacy God intended. I’m afraid of being the same person at 85 that I am at 31. This includes all aspects of my life, blogging, motherhood, character growth, and being a wife. Who doesn’t want to stand before God and not hear the words, “Well done.”? Who doesn’t want to became more like Jesus and less like a selfish 2-year-old? (Oh wait–maybe I’m the only 31 year old out there that has 2 year old moments?).   Just this week, I put myself out on a limb …

The Real Me, Not the Airbrushed Kind (NO MORE PERFECT MOMS)

If possible, view the video first, then read on little mamas! http://youtu.be/2_S1kRI_pnA Just recently I went on air to hang out with the ladies from Good Morning Nebraska (not Good Morning America, mind you). I was invited onto the show to talk about an upcoming event at my church. Miss America 2011 is coming to town (in fact, by the time you read this, she will be gracing our stage).  As we chatted about this being a great event for girls, we got onto the subject of body image and perfection. And here’s the funny part ladies, even the world’s most beautiful women …

The Antidote: No More Perfect Moms Study, Chapter 2

Michelle Duggar…. The woman with 19 kids has been called out on the red carpet in the name of sanity, birth control, child neglect and more. Michelle rarely addresses the accusations and comparisons. Instead, she does what she knows best. She plants herself, firmly rooted in God and raises her kids….all 19 of them.  You may be asking, what does Michelle have to do with me or this study? I came here to feel encouraged about being a not so perfect mom and then you have to bring up Michelle, really? Work with me here, little mama. Tell me, what thoughts flashed through …

Stand with Faith

“Tori-Grace, you cannot have yarn with in bed,” I said as I began snipping and rolling up fuzzy blue yarn she had tied around everything. It was strung from her dollhouse, around her toys, wrapped around curtain holders only to end with it tied around her pillow. Immediately she began bawling over the offense of tearing apart her hard work. So I gave her a choice. “Tori-Grace, either you take the yarn down or I will do it for you.” She looked up at me with her big blue eyes, behind her pink glasses before lisping, “I don’t know.” So I made …

Life’s Instruction Manual; Some Assembly Required

Written by Heather Riggleman (I posted this on my column on Her View From Home yesterday but since then God enlightened me. He has given my the instruction manual and the times when I thought I stumbled, God was there to pick me up. I added a few more thoughts just for you, little mama).  Midnight. The time my husband and I fell into bed, our snores and tossing filled with mutterings of “Hand me that piece. I think it goes here.” “No, it’s backwards.” Like every naive parent on Christmas eve, we decided to assemble some gifts for our kids; one in particular for our son. Chris …

In The Midst of Sandy Hook, He Keeps His Promises

Written by Heather Riggleman In light of the tragedy of Sandy Hook, every mother in this nation wonders where we can turn to, what can we trust when nothing seems constant? My dear little mama, we can trust God. He keeps his promises. In fact, I felt led to share an excerpt from my book because I think we all need something tangible to fill our hearts today. Blessings to you. May this devotion be the encouragement you need to face today and not question tomorrow.  He Keeps His Promises (Mama Needs A Time Out ©) As a mom, I’ve broken more than my fair …

Teaching God’s Word Doesn’t Have to Be Hard

I’ve been working on a new book for moms and one of the questions I’m often asked is this, “How do you teach God’s word to your kids?” Here is an excerpt from my book Modern Moms © and its perfect for everyday moms like you and I wanting to led our kids to Jesus. 🙂  Being in central Nebraska, I am smack dab in the middle of farm country. In fact, most of my friends have grown up on farms or are married to farmers. Don’t even get me started about football around here either (We still don’t really get it). Husker …

Teen Mom? Here’s a Couple Tips For You

How do you balance tests, friends and a growing belly?  With shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and MTV’s Teen Mom, teens are desensitized to the realities of sex. I know I was. It seemed like everyone around me was doing it. And I LOVED my boyfriend, so why not? Nothing prepared me for the realities of motherhood. I would ask my mom questions about the pregnancy and birth but what about afterwards? Most books I’ve seen on the market deal with the emotions  and the details during pregnancy. To me the pregnancy was the easiest part, it was after that …
