If It Could Make a Difference, Would You?

If something could make a positive difference in YOUR life and your CHILD’s, would you do it?   Most of us would answer, “YES! What is it?” First, we need to be reminded that what comes out of our kid’s mouths and what they do, comes out of what’s in their heads and hearts. SAME FOR US. If we don’t want our kids to hit, be rude, or lie, then they need to have God’s word WITHIN THEM to redirect their natural tendencies.  SAME FOR US. Our yelling, “Stop hitting! Share! Be nice!” can bounce off a child. Of course, we must teach them to …

H is for Habits

Habits….actions we routinely do. Some are good; some not so good. Here’s the good news: you can help your kids develop life long GOOD HABITS.  However, give in to their every, “Mom, I don’t want to….” and they’ll have you to thank for their poor work ethic, negativity, laziness, sarcasm, lack of self control, you name it.  SO HOW DOES IT WORK? Train a child to make their bed right when they get out of it, and that will be their default – their normal. Let them get in the habit of not making it and well, there you have …

Smart Summer Strategies

Summer’s Here! Whoo hoo! Kids are out of school. No rushed mornings. Or, at least no homework or projects due.   BUT….are your children controlling you? Or, are you building into them the following admirable traits?  Personal Responsibility  Do you want to raise a slob or someone who knows how to pick up after themselves? It may not bother you to pick up a 2 year old’s sippy cup. But if your 7 year old knocks over his apple juice and leaves it on the table, you may be rightly annoyed. And it isn’t cool for a 12 year old to leave cans of half drunk sodas …

Better Together Conference HIGHLIGHTS

What happens at a Better Together Conference? Since a picture is worth a million words…. Stephanie Shott, Melinda Means, Debbie Taylor Williams, Christen Price “Better Together” is the name of The Mom Initiative Conference that we are hosting in churches across America.  When I think of 2 moms who model being “Better Together,” I think of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth. They were better together! After the angel announced to Mary that she had been chosen to give birth to the Messiah, she went to see Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John. Together they celebrated. “Blessed are you …

Today…Give 5 Away!

Jesus comes for a visit. He walks through your front door. You’re overwhelmed by His glorious presence.   He sits at your table. You offer Him water; feeling silly as you do; since He’s Living water. He asks to see your children who are playing in the next room. As you enter, a sense of embarrassment consumes you. Not because of their rowdy playing; but because of the number of toys stuffed in toy bins and covering the floor; the toys they no longer play with that you’d intended to give to the less fortunate before Christmas. Your children run into Jesus’s arms. He blesses them; then …

5 Mood Altering Words

You know the feeling. It creeps up on you.  Anxiousness. Tension. Pressure. The “to do” list.   The “worry” about your child, marriage, finances, days ahead. You try to think soundly, “I’m so blessed.” It doesn’t help. You feel your body tense.  Whether you’re a career woman, part time employee, stay at home mom, or combination, there’s no escaping the pressure of the world. Jesus warned, “In the world you HAVE tribulation.” (John 16:33) Notice 2 things: The word, “tribulation,” which Jesus used means “pressure.” Jesus said we have it. In other words, His warning isn’t for a future day. It’s …

How to Create A Prayer War Room

“There always seems to be something to fight for.”  “We need to have the right [plan] and resources because victories don’t come by accident.” Did you see the movie, “War Room”? Miss Clara was on “target” when she said we need to have the right resources. Lately my eyes have been returning to 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; where we’re warned that “though we walk in the flesh, we do not WAR according to the flesh.” In other words, whether we’re in the midst of dealing with an unruly child, battling cancer, or struggling with marital issues, we need more than our wit. We need to …

Are You Kidding? 4 Organization Tips to Keep You Sane

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” Galatians 5:22-23. Lauren, my daughter, looked across the kitchen as I unloaded the dishwasher one morning. Instead of putting the dishes in the cabinets, I set them on the table for dinner. “Are you kidding?” she laughed. “Mom, you really do things ahead of time.” For a few months several years ago, Lauren, her husband, and two young boys stayed with us while they house shopped. During that time, Lauren got a bird’s eye view of the organization tips that kept me sane when she and …
