The Power of Prayer

Spread the love

I’d been having major writer’s block. I was praying to God to show me His topic for today’s blog and nothing was coming. Time was running out for the publish date…

I had just spent the morning at my Holy yoga class and was driving home. I was thinking about how precious life is, and I was thanking God for letting me do yoga with friends in Christ. Life had been really tough lately for me and my husband, and I’d been having a hard time experiencing God’s joy and peace.

As I was driving home, there was a truck in front of me going super slow. So, I turned down a different street and went another way home than I usually go. Just as I rounded a corner to a major intersection, there was a horrible car wreck. An SUV was flipped over, and there was a person trapped inside. There were already a bunch of men on the scene trying to pry the person out. No emergency vehicles were there yet.

I thought, what can I do? How can I help? I’m not a doctor or a nurse, and I’m not particularly helpful in a crisis situation. But, I knew why God had sent me there. It was simply to pray. I prayed and prayed for healing, for help to come as fast as possible, for peace and salvation for the person. I thanked Him for the people who had already stopped to help. God had sent me there to do the only thing I could …and that was to pray.

I don’t know the outcome of the person’s injuries. About four minutes after I arrived, the paramedics got to the scene. I trust in the Lord that He hears our prayers and that the person is going to be okay. And I believe that God purposely sent me that way to pray for that individual. If I ever get into an accident, I sure hope someone will be praying for me too.

I learned that day that prayer is even more powerful than we think it is. God wanted me there, so I could pray, and so that I could share this story with you.

God taught me that life is so very precious. He showed me that I spend too much time bogged down in my own troubles and not enough time looking up and thanking him for each and every day I get on this beautiful earth. I need to be less self-focused and more God focused. When I focus my energy on Him, I have more peace, joy and trust in His plan for my life.

And finally, God taught me that he can send us a certain way, on a specific path just to intercede in prayer for someone if we have enough faith to believe that He hears our prayers. Wow…I’m still blown away by that notion.

John 14:13-14 English Standard Version (ESV)

13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

I hope you are finding the silver lining in your life and are enjoying these beautiful fall days filled with blue skies and colorful foliage. Keep looking up! God always has your back and always has a plan. And earthly angels are everywhere!

How can you intercede for someone in prayer today?

Be Blessed,
