How to Combat Sleepless Nights

Spread the love

I just love the 90’s romantic movie Sleepless in Seattle, the one with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. They both have sleepless nights while thinking about finding true love.

Well, I don’t know about you but my sleepless nights are kind of different in hot, muggy Florida this time of the year. They aren’t romantic in the slightest, and they usually have something to do with a snoring husband or an over-active bladder.

Have you ever spent most of the night awake, wishing you could just go back to sleep? Whether it’s your crying baby, the obnoxious cat, your anxious mind, or some other thing, sleepless nights can really mess up our MOM lives in a big way.

Moms keep tight schedules and the ship afloat both at home and at work. So, when we are dragging due to lack of sleep, it negatively affects the whole family.

So how do we combat these difficult nights? Well believe it or not, Christ talks about these types of nights in the Bible and how to conquer them. Don’t waste one tiny second being anxious, but turn your thoughts over to Christ instead.

Here are a few Bible verses upon which to meditate. They can be used as tools either before bedtime or to help you get back to sleep.

Proverbs 3:24-26  Get rid of fear.

24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
    when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
    or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the Lord will be at your side
    and will keep your foot from being snared. NIV

Psalm 4:8 NIV Trust in peace and safety from the Lord.

    In peace I will lie down and sleep,
    for you alone, Lord,
    make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 3:5 ESV  More trusting in the Lord for rest.

    I lay down and slept;
    I woke again, for the Lord sustained me

Lamentations 2:19 ESV Pour your heart out to God before you try to lay down to sleep.

“Arise, cry out in the night,
    at the beginning of the night watches!
Pour out your heart like water
    before the presence of the Lord!
Lift your hands to him
    for the lives of your children,
who faint for hunger
    at the head of every street.”

Drink some Sleepy Time tea, pray and head for the sack for a night of sweet dreamzzz…

Be Blessed,
