5 Easy Back-to-School Traditions

Spread the love

Today, I wanted to share a great re-post from last year by Lindsey Bell because SOME OF YOU have children who will be starting back to school tomorrow.

Soooo… whether you homeschool, your children are in public, private or virtual school, here are some great ideas to help you begin some back-to-school traditions.

My oldest child begins kindergarten this month. (And yes, that is the sound of quiet crying you hear through your computer!)

Last year, when he began preschool, I wanted to make his first day special. What I didn’t want to do, though, was stress myself out. I am NOT a crafty mom, and most of my attempts at Pin-worthy projects end up on “Pinterest Fail” boards long before they make it anywhere else.

That being said, not all traditions have to be difficult. Here are 5 of my favorite back-to-school traditions that even the non-crafty mom can do!

5 EASY Back-to-School Traditions:

1. Take a “First Day of School” Photo.

To make this really fun, take the picture in the same place every year (i.e. in front of a tree in your yard, on the front porch, etc).

2. Leave a lunch box note for your child to find.

Or…if your child isn’t bringing his lunch to school, leave a note in his backpack.

3. Have a special dinner the night before school begins.

Cook your child’s favorite meal or go out to eat.

If this doesn’t work for your schedule, you could cook a Back-to-School breakfast or a special snack on the first day.

4. Interview your child on the night before his first day of school.

Fun Back to School TraditionAsk him some of these questions:

  • What is your favorite food?
  • What is your favorite dessert?
  • Who is your best friend?
  • What is your favorite movie?
  • What is your favorite game?
  • What is your favorite color?
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • What is your favorite Bible story?
  • What is your favorite book?

Hang on to these every year. By the time your child finishes high school, you’ll have a notebook full of memories.

Or, using Picmonkey or some other free online editing software, add some of your child’s “favorites” to their First Day of School Photo.

5. Make a special gift for your child’s teacher.

It doesn’t have to be anything huge. Last year, I made rice krispie treats for my son’s teacher and found a printable on Pinterest to attach to the jar we put them in. If you’re looking for teacher gift ideas, check out my Pinterest board for ideas.
