Teaching Your Children the Secret of Abiding

We tell our children to chase their dreams.

But what if their dreams aren’t the same dreams God has for them?

What if their dreams were conceived in insecurity, doubt, fear, or pride?

I don’t want my sons to seek their own dreams, to make their own way, to do their own thing. I want them to want what God wants, to seek His dream for them, to run the race God has planned for them, to bravely and boldly become all God created them to be and do the good works that God prepared beforehand that they should walk in.

Our children need to learn the secret to abiding.

When we abide in Christ, the fruit that comes from our lives was the fruit that was birthed from the heart of God. (John 15:1-8)

Today, I want to encourage you to teach your children the secret of abiding. When they abide in Christ, He plant His seed of a dream in their hearts and it is through the abiding that that seed will begin to grow.

Instead of telling your children to follow their dreams, the best thing you can tell them is to follow hard after Christ… to abide in Him… and when they do, they will run smack-dab into the dreams God has tucked in their hearts.

After all, Psalm 37:4 tells us, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
