What Is a Homemaker and Why You Need to Know

Spread the love

HomeMaker

“Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.” Proverbs 14:1

Recently I was cleaning my house because my sons and their families were coming over for Family Game Night. A friend asked me why I was cleaning my house when it was just family.

With a smile in my eyes I looked at her and said, “Because it is my family that I love most.”

Homemaking seems to be a lost art – scorned by some as some type of menial service – disregarded and disrespected by others as a meaningless waste of time.

But homemaking is about making a house a home. It’s managing a home well and filling it will love.

It takes heart.

And it takes a lot of work.

And a homemaker? Well, she’s the one who pours the foundation with the love she has for God and for her family.

She’s the one who places brick upon brick with…

every meal she makes
every table she sets
every special Saturday breakfast with the kids
every load of laundry she folds
every toilet she cleans
every bed she makes

every closet she organizes for the umpteenth time
every lunch she packs
every birthday party she plans
every family night and movie night she organizes
every dream she dreams with and for her family
every special family picture she places purposefully on her special corner table
every laugh that echoes through their home
every family tradition that she insists upon
every game night she has with her kids
every holiday meal
every kiss goodbye at the front door
and every memory she makes

Because it is moms who make a house a home.

It’s the seemingly insignificant things she does that assures her family that their home is the place where they can always come no matter how far they go… the place where they will always feel safe… the place where they will always know there is someone there who will cheer them on and believe in them when they don’t even believe in themselves.

It’s the refuge they need when they want to hide from the world and the place where they want to be able to bring their friends.

The place where they don’t have to impress anyone… they can just be who they are and be loved because they belong.

A homemaker is the maker of the home. She’s the one who builds it. The one who manages it. The one who gives it personality and makes it an inviting place… not just for those who come to her door but especially to those who live within her four walls.

And YOU are the homemaker of your home.

Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or you work outside the home. Whether you’re married or a single mom. No matter where you are in your journey as a mom, YOU are the HOMEMAKER of your home.

So, sweet mom, make it well!

A WISE WOMAN BUILDS HER HOME BECAUSE IT IS THE PLACE HER HUSBAND AND HER CHILDREN KNOW IT IS THERE THAT THEY BELONG!

Is homemaking a lost art in your heart? What are you doing today to build you home?
