I live in Mayberry. Well, not really, but a small, “Christian” town. We’re known for being a mecca of non-profits who join hands to help others.  You can find a Bible study any day of the week, any time of day at the church of your choice.  Young preacher, old preacher, contemporary or traditional worship service, come one, come all. Wear your suit. Wear your shorts. We’re here for you. But beyond, and unfortunately sometimes including, the well scrubbed faces of little ones flooding Sunday school classes, you’ll find the tear stained cheeks of children suffering physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

Yes, in my quiet Christian community, the following articles “graced” the Kerrville Daily Times newspaper on the same day:

MOTHER COULD FACE FELONY INDICTMENT CHARGE

A 31-year-old Kerrville woman accused by police of leaving her 5-year-old girl to roam the streets may face a felony child endangerment charge. The officer arrived to find the girl walking unsupervised in the street without a jacket or shoes, according to a police report. The officer reported the girl was shaking, as temperatures were in the 30s, and she was asking for her mother.

DA RESTS IN CHILD ABUSE CASE

Jurors heard the final testimony Thursday in the prosecution of a 73-year-old Comfort man accused of touching his granddaughter sexually numerous times from 2009-12.

During an interview at the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office in November 2011, the defendant told a deputy he’d slept naked with the girl and that she’d touched his penis, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Jurors on Wednesday heard an audio recording of the girl’s 75-year-old grandmother testifying before a grand jury that her husband would take showers with the girl.

The girl claimed her grandparents sometimes applied salve to her private areas for rashes but said salve also was applied to alleviate pain caused by her grandfather’s touching.

Child Welfare Information Gate reports:

51 States reported a total of 1,545 fatalities. Based on these data, a nationally estimated 1,570 children died from abuse and neglect in 2011.”

I don’t know about you, but the abuse grieves my heart.

MOMs and GRANDMOTHERs, WAKE UP & TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for what is going on in YOUR HOME!

Too many times, a wife will say she didn’t know her husband was sexual abusing their children.  But more often than not, her claims are difficult to believe.

Is it fear of your spouse that keeps you from speaking up?

Is it fear of the law finding out and your name being in the paper?

Is it guilt for not realizing the abuse was happening and you haven’t known what to do?

Were you abused, so you figure it’s just that way?

If you suspect child abuse of any kind or even if you don’t, but want to be better informed and equipped to know what to do, click HERE for more information.

And, PRAY.

Heavenly Father, we know You see the tears and hear the cries of Your children calling out to You. We ask that You move in the hearts of moms and grandmothers to see what’s going on in their homes, and that they take steps today to stop the abuse. Give them courage and resolve to do what is right to protect their children. And, for those who have been abused, turn their eyes heavenward and heal them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
