Living life together. That is what we are called to do. Is your front door open to those around you? Is it open to those in your church, in your neighborhood, in your kid’s schools? I know it can seem like “just one more thing” on your to-do list. You are a busy mom and you have a lot on your plate, but did you know that one of your callings is to live life with others?
That’s what is called being a member of the body of Christ.
At times I get overwhelmed with life and I ask God what He wants me to be doing. I can easily begin feeling like I am being pulled in about 100 different directions! That is when God reminds me to take time to evaluate what I know to be my callings. I have also found that I need to take the time to evaluate these callings as I enter into a different season of life. What those callings look like can change from season to season.
What are my God-given callings? I’m a God follower, a wife, and a mom. Just the calling of nurturing my relationship with my God, husband and children is huge and takes most of my time! But I have another calling. I am a member of the body of Christ..
How am I fulfilling that calling?
All you have to do is spend a short amount of time online, and you will find that women are looking for fellowship. They are looking for guidance. They need support. And, although the resources found online are extremely helpful, and I am grateful for them, there is nothing like real life, body of Christ, living life together, community!
It’s helpful for you, it’s an encouragement to those you reach out to, and it can lead to mentoring relationships. But do you know why else it is important? When you answer the call to live life with others, and practice what it means to be the body of Christ, you are actually being a living example to your children and are teaching them how to nurture relationships with God’s people.
Have you taken the time to ask God how you can create community in real life and answer that most important calling? Are you showing your children what real life, body of Christ relationships looks like?
Investing in real life community might seem like a sacrifice, but it is our calling as members of the body of Christ. It benefits you. It benefits others. It teaches your children. It glorifies God.
But do you want to know what I think is even more important than any of those reasons? Yes! There is an even bigger picture! When we choose to be active members of the body of Christ, it actually shows the world that you are HIS disciples! Yep! It’s one of the ways we can be a light to this dark world. When we live life with and care for one another, we are being a light to the world.
So, if you aren’t already, begin praying about who God might want you to live life with…
