What did I do before Facebook

What did I do before Facebook?

Spread the love

As a Women’s Ministry Director for nearly a decade, I’ve watched big trends in the lives of women over the last ten years. Communication and technology are in over-drive when it comes to the pace of change. It has been so fast that we’ve have barely had time to stop and learn, much less reflect on how it’s impacting our lives.

Social media and our technology habits have changed women personally, as wives and as moms. Family life is different now. It often takes a crisis, power outage, vacation, illness, honest friend, or the Holy Spirit to slow us down and make us intentionally think about how changes in tech are helping and hurting us. Maybe you’ve thought about these same challenges and cried out to the Lord, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom,” (Psalm 90:12). If you can relate, would you dare stop and ask the Lord to help you answer this question: “What did I do before Facebook?”

What did I do before Facebook?

What did I do before Facebook? Before comments and sharing and likes?
I have memories of picnics and chalk art and blocks, of crayons and reading and bikes.
I think I remember clean laundry, and me at the door with a smile,
I recollect dinner once ready on time, with a side of green beans in a pile.

What did I do before Facebook? Before crafting a status to post?
I have memories of setting up castles and forts and play-doh tea parties to host.
I think I remember me quiet, and opening God’s word each day,
I recollect journals and verse cards and tears, and me being glad I had prayed.

What did I do before Facebook? Before sharing my pics with the crowd?
I have memories of sitting by one friend or two, of sharing and laughing out loud.
I think I remember a mentor, I watched how she managed her life.
I recollect watching the trends in her day and followed as mommy and wife

What did I do before Facebook? It’s not a bad thing in itself.
I have to make memories of truth in my heart and not leave God’s word on the shelf.
I think I will pray through my time use, and ask God for fresh eyes to see
How I am living His book in my life and how He would profile me.

Lord, teach us moms to number our days, so we will have hearts of wisdom. Show us how to use our time to be moms who honor You and nurture our kids to know, love, and serve you.   ~Amen

HAS THIS MINISTERED TO YOU? IF SO, WOULD YOU SHARE THE LOVE BY SHARING IT?
