When Your Child Chooses to Live a Prodigal Life

It happens. It happens far too often.

Parents pour their lives out for their children and they consistently sow seeds into their spiritual lives and yet, they grow up and choose to live the life of a prodigal.

They seek their own way when they know Jesus is the only way.

They run after the passions of their heart when Jesus should be the passion of their hearts.

They long to find themselves when God’s Word says that life doesn’t make sense until we lose ourselves.

It’s a heart break that many mommas face and for most moms the hardest part is they wonder where God is for their children…and where God is for them?

But God’s heart for our kids is bigger than our heart for our kids.

He loves them more than we possibly could and His plan for them is good.

His Word is not just for us, but it is for them, as well. He yearns for them. He created them for His pleasure. He created them just as fearfully and wonderfully as He created you. He is El Roi for them just as He is El Roi for you. The God who sees you…the God who sees them.

God’s Word is full of promises to cling to when your heart is heavy and your children are far from God.

In my Bible I have dates and my children’s names beside verses that I have prayed for them over the years…verses that I have claimed and clung to, knowing that God is faithful and although the journey may be hard, it is a journey and He is still working on their hearts.

Here are a few to cling to today, sweet mom.

Jeremiah 31:16-17 (NKJV), ““Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own border.”

Isaiah 57:16-19 (NKJV), “For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made. For the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry and struck him; I hid and was angry, and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will also lead him, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners. “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” Says the Lord, “And I will heal him.”

Ezekiel 37:23 (NLT), “They will never again pollute themselves with their idols and vile images and rebellion, for I will save them from their sinful backsliding. I will cleanse them. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.”
