Mom, You Can Follow Your Dreams!

Spread the love

“If you could do ANYTHING and know it could succeed, what would it be?”

I ask this question often—when I have coffee with friends and when I speak to mom groups. Usually I see nods . . . then I see tears. We all have dreams, don’t we? Yet we don’t know how in the world we can follow them. Maybe you’re just trying to catch up with laundry and errands. Maybe you’re just trying to figure out how to get to T-ball practice and get dinner on the table tonight. I understand.

I’m a mom of six, and I’ve been a published author for fifteen years. Yet I remember those days when I wondered if I could even get a shower that day, let alone try to take one step to follow my dreams.

Maybe you’ve already started a ministry you hope will impact lives, but you don’t have enough time to give what you know it needs. Or maybe you’re just trying to spend thirty minutes a day on something important that stirs within. If God calls you, then He will help make the way, but you have to take the first steps of faith. Turn off the television, get off of Facebook, let the laundry sit another day, and dare to allow God to work through you. Be faithful to what He’s asking you to do.

To God, your faithfulness is what matters most. Your faithfulness to the work is more important than the outcome. Honestly!

When we do the work He’s called us to do, we can trust the outcome to Him. It took me eight years of writing before I had a contract, but it wasn’t the contract I’ve learned to cherish most. It’s sitting down day by day and allowing God’s Spirit to move my heart, reflecting themselves as words on the page.

Yes, God will empower you to achieve His purpose. He will enable you to influence more lives than you can ever imagine, in ways you can’t even start to picture. And He will help you start at home!

If God is asking you to serve Him in a certain way, He won’t sacrifice your kids in the process. It’s not an either/or. When we serve God while raising our kids, He’ll show us how to do both. When we ask Jesus how to love well, He’ll be there for us, working through us, to impact people beyond us for His glory.

God has dreams for you—greater than you can imagine. And when you turn to Him, He will help you succeed. It may not be according to the world’s success, but it’ll be beautiful to Him! It’ll also be a wonderful example to your children on what following one’s dreams looks like!
